Finman+ Newsletter #3: Learning Through Experience – International Training for Young Adults in Cyprus
From 15–17 April 2026, partners and participants of the FINMAN+ project gathered in Cyprus for the project’s International Training for Young Adults, hosted by Emphasys Centre in Nicosia. The event brought together young participants and project partners from across Europe for three days of practical learning, collaboration, and exchange of experiences around financial literacy.
From Financial Concepts to Real-Life Decisions
The training was designed around one of FINMAN+’s core principles: helping young adults develop financial competencies through practical, scenario-based learning rather than purely theoretical instruction.
Throughout the programme, participants explored a wide range of financial topics connected to everyday life, including:
- understanding personal income and payslips
- budgeting and distinguishing between needs and wants
- saving strategies and emergency funds
- loans, credit, and debt risks
- online scams and financial fraud awareness
- financial planning and investment basics
- setting short-, medium-, and long-term financial goals
What made the training unique was its strong focus on interactive activities and realistic financial scenarios. Participants were encouraged not only to understand concepts but also to apply them in practical situations, discuss possible outcomes, and reflect on their decision-making processes.
Scenario-Based Learning in Practice
Each thematic session included practical exercises based on real-life financial situations, allowing participants to experience how financial decisions are made under realistic conditions.
Through these scenarios, learners developed not only financial knowledge, but also critical thinking, confidence, and risk awareness—key competences for navigating today’s increasingly complex financial environment.
The programme also included quizzes, collaborative exercises, and group discussions, helping participants learn from each other’s perspectives and experiences.
International Collaboration and Exchange
Beyond the learning activities themselves, the training provided valuable opportunities for intercultural exchange and networking among participants from different partner countries.
The informal discussions, collaborative tasks, and social activities created an open environment where participants could share experiences, compare financial realities across countries, and reflect on the common challenges young adults face today.
Project Meeting and Next Steps
Alongside the training activities, project partners also held a coordination meeting dedicated to the next implementation stages of FINMAN+.
Discussions focused on:
- dissemination and visibility activities
- further development and fine-tuning of training materials
- the upcoming digital financial literacy assessment tool
- translation and piloting activities
- planning future multiplier events and national testing phases
The meeting allowed partners to align on the next steps for the project and ensure a smooth transition from development to broader implementation and impact.
Looking Ahead
The Cyprus training marked another important milestone for FINMAN+, demonstrating how practical, learner-centred approaches can make financial education more engaging, relevant, and effective for young adults.
In the coming months, the consortium will continue refining the educational materials and assessment tools developed within the project, bringing them closer to learners across Europe.
Stay tuned as FINMAN+ continues turning financial literacy into practical life skills through innovation, collaboration, and real-world learning experiences.
